Schools that Learn - The Fifth Discipline
Almost a month ago, I wrote a blog entry about mental models of school and learning from Peter Senge and “Schools that Learn.” I continue to work my way through various chapters and have found some good exercises worth sharing with other teachers:
Page 60 - Drawing forth personal vision. “To define your personal vision: the results you want most from life, and the person you want to be. For educators, parents, students, or anyone, this exercise may bring forth deeply held aspirations around your purpose and wishes as a teacher and a learner.
Page 75 - Developing dialogue. “Dialogue is a form of conversation, in short, that draws people to see past the blinders that they have put upon themselves.” There is a difference between dialogue and discussion.
Page 105 - Designing a learning environment. “Instead of starting with the conventional aspects of design—such as the curriculum or arrangement of time—start with the image in your mind of a classroom that learns.”
