Passionate Educators and Students
One of my favorite blogs to read is Kathy Sierra’s Creating Passionate Users. Not only is she entertaining, but she presents a lot of ideas that many, including me, think are relevant to education. One of her recent posts, Are you a passionate tech user?, was thought provoking. What got me thinking most was her definition of “passionate”—
...the definition of “passionate” we’re using means that you are always learning, growing, improving in some way related to the tool/product/service OR (more likely) something that the tool lets you do.
How many passionate people do you run into in a day? Are teachers passionate? What are they passionate about? Are administrators passionate? What are they passionate about? Are students passionate? What are they passionate about? You get the line of questioning here…
And after asking myself those questions, I ran into a nifty article Arvind put together at 21apples about an 8th grade student that is certainly passionate—about learning, writing, technology and computers. If we ever wonder what being passionate really means, this kid, and many others, can show us. I only hope we have the wisdom to listen and learn from them. It’s an excellent post. Be sure to read it!
