NECC: Using Technology to Support Differentiated Instruction and Critical Thinking

Art4Teaching consists of three components: accomodation, rigor and technology. Accomodation refers to differentiated instruction. The presenters cited the work of Carol Ann Tomlinson (differentiating in the areas of content, process and product) as well as the multiple intelligences of Howard Gardner. Rigor refers to Bloom’s Taxonomy, particularly the revised version: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating. Technology can be used effectively to address both areas of accomodation and rigor.

An Integration Matrix for Differentiated Instruction (available on the Art4Teaching site) was presented. It consists of the multiple intelligences and Bloom’s new taxonomy. When the matrix is completed, it can be used as a curriculum guide. It can also be used for archiving appropriate web sites and ways of using specific software.

More materials can be found at the Art4Teaching web site.
