NECC: Student Voices Project Report

One of the most powerful aspects of the conference was to hear the words of students on how important technology in education is to them, and what their thoughts are on our current educational system. We can probably learn a great deal from listening closely to what they have to say.

Earlier this year, ISTE and TakingITGlobal brought together youth from all over the world to formulate a series of recommendations to be communicated to teachers. After five weeks of online discussion and over 1,800 submissions, the following themes were voiced:

*Effective learning involves a partnership between teacher and student.
*Our education should respect and assist in our goals.
*Technology is a tool, not a course.
*Our environment affects our learning.

These themes are described in more detail on the Student Voices site, and certainly provide us with incite into how students see the world and their education.
