Essential Conditions

The International Society for Technology in Education is famous for its NETS (National Education Technology Standards). The Northwest Educational Technology Consortium (NETC) has developed an excellent document that is a check-list of Essential Conditions. This can be an effective tool to assess a school’s educational technology program.

Essential Conditions include:

  1. Shared Vision
  2. Equitable Access
  3. Skilled Personnel
  4. Professional Development
  5. Technical Assistance
  6. Content Standards and Curriculum Resources
  7. Student-Centered Teaching
  8. Assessment and Accountability
  9. Community Support
  10. Support Policies
  11. External Conditions

It is worth the time to go through the check list and see where the strengths and weakness of your district lie. Where do you think most are in making progress toward these essential conditions?
