Wayback Machine
This is hardly anything new, but I thought I’d share how the Wayback Machine Internet Archive came in handy for me today. A 6th grade teacher emailed me asking for a series of links I posted for her probably four years ago about Ancient Greece. I hardly remembered doing this, and was sure that it probably no longer existed on the web server. But, ah-hah, an idea...I wonder if it was archived.
I pointed Firefox to the Wayback Machine, entered the original URL where I thought I probably had posted it, and low and behold, there it was...minus graphics, but the links she wanted were there. I had a few minutes so I downloaded the archived page, fixed the broken links (there were only a few surprisingly), and reposted it for her. Yes, I know I should have started a bookmark list for her on somewhere like Blinklist, but I just didn’t have time for that today.
It was neat to be able to retrieve something old like that, but it was most gratifying to have helped out the teacher! She was pleased.
