Two on the web…
I just love running across things on the web I didn’t know about...or have the time to find more about. This is the case with Answers.com and Mark Treadwell’s Teachers @ Work.
I have heard a number of positive comments from teachers about Answers.com (notably its ease of use and quality of content), so I thought I’d finally take the time to look it over. There were several things that I was impressed with about this site:
- There is a Teacher Toolkit page. This page explains how education-friendly Answers.com can be. There are useful links to current events, citation tools, and a nifty classroom website tool.
- Answers.com uses reliable resources such as Houghton-Mifflin, Columbia University Press, Merriam Webster, MarketWatch, Investopedia and Who2.
- Search tools and one-click answers are available for whatever browser you choose to use.
I tried a few searches and was impressed with the results. Not only did the site provide accurate information, but also links to other resources I had no idea existed. I’m sure this site will get even better with time!
Mark Treadwell’s Teachers @ Work site is one of those so full of good information you could spend hours here. I have just started uncovering a wealth of knowledge related to educational technology. The Professional Development Research Readings section offered up many interesting articles about current trends in technology and education. Mark suggests organizing a professional reading group and using the research to focus discussions. This is a great idea! There is also more information in the Emergent 21st Century Teacher Section. He also has a collection of over 3000 annotated links. I was looking for some things on mathematics and learned about a number of interactive sites I knew nothing about. In addition, the bottom of the page has a collection of Top Ten Sites, several which were new to me. Great stuff here worth checking out!
