NECC: Making Teaching, Not Technology, More Engaging, Enchanting, and More Interactive
Subtitled “Extreme Technology Makeover”, this session presented some readily usable material on how to take a lesson that is low on the LoTI scale and revamp it. What is LoTI? LoTI stands for Levels of Technology Implementation. An excellent description of the levels can be found on the web.
During the session, Dr. Chris Moersch, creator of LoTI, revealed that levels of technology implementation have actually gone from Level 2 (technology-based tools supplement the existing instructional program or complement selected multimedia and/or web-based projects) to a Level 0 (a perceived lack of access to technology tools or the lack of time to pursue electronic technology implementation).
As a result, Dr. Moersch has provided rubrics for teachers to examine their lessons for Authenticity, High Level Processes, Challenge, and Differentiated Instruction. He provided examples of how these rubrics were applied to lessons to bring them from lower LoTI levels of 0 and 1 to mid-range levels of 3 and 4.
