Today’s post is short, but in keeping with the same theme of the last few entries. This morning I cleared out some technology journals and magazines: Learning and Leading with Technology, edutopia, Technology and Learning. I didn’t find anything particularly interesting, but I am noticing more and more the common theme of technology and its impact on school change. One article even quoted the National Education Technology Plan saying, “Too often, schools have simply applied technology to existing ways of teaching and learning, with marginal results in student achievement.” I also read on the MSNBC web site an article about governors meeting regarding the American high school. Bill Gates testified that the American high school is outdated and is no longer effective. I read last week (I can’t remember the source) that content area organizations like NCTM and NCTE are taking positions about changing the way the classroom looks, from lecture to more student-centered, project-based learning.

My questions are these: What is being done about it? And why aren’t we doing more?

I am confused by all the talk and no, or very little, action. I understand how education is always lagging behind the rest of the world, but it just seems like nothing is really changing.
