Blogging
Since the beginning of this year, I have been really interested in this whole blogging phenomena. I have never particularly enjoyed writing, but think blogging has definitely increased the enjoyment of the prospect of writing. I am not sure why, but I think the main reason is it allows me the opportunity to make concrete some of the things that I am thinking. Or, as in the case of this post, gives me the opportunity to make a record of something interesting that I’ve found.
The University of Houston - Clear Lake has posted a Blogs in Education page. The page has some links to articles I’ve already read, but I think the most interesting part is the links to example weblogs. There is a variety there, but most have some sort of educational application. As the site says, “The use of blogs in instructional settings is limited only by your imagination.” And the links to other sites keeps this thought in mind.
Following the example blogs comes a list of blogging tools (many free) and some links for advanced bloggers. I am interested in checking out the blogrolling and bloglet links.
I did spend some time this past semester reading about weblogs and have collected my work in another weblog. There is still much more to learn, particularly how to get into the coding so that it looks not so much like a standard weblog. Ironically, the idea of blogging is that you focus on the writing and not on appearance, but I think I am at that point where toying around with the aesthetic is where I want to go next, at least with my own blogs.
