ArtRage

Several days ago I had a really good brainstorming session with an English teacher that is developing a project-based unit on Shakespeare. They will be studying Romeo and Juliet. She is following a process where by she looks at the objectives that she wants the students to meet that pertain to the play. The students will then be demonstrating their understanding of the objectives through a project of some sort. When we were talking about project options, I remembered an art application that I had seen online called ArtRage. ArtRage is an application that is designed to simulate an artist’s tools - paint, chalk, crayon, watercolors, etc. And most impressive about the program is that it simulates an artists work so realistically that you would never know you were using a computer rather than the actual materials. And you don’t have the expense or mess of real materials.

Best of all, the application is FREE! How they do it is beyond me. The product is designed to be used on a Tablet PC, but it also works well on the interactive whiteboards that we have in our school. Very cool product to check out. There is also a gallery on the ArtRage site that shows how powerful this tool is.
