Collaboration

Today I realized, once again, just how lucky I am. I’m lucky to work with people who are great collaborators. And we learn so much more when we collaborate than when we work alone on something. We just finished a major “Classrooms for the Future” grant for our district. From what I “hear,” most districts have one or two people sit down to write these sort of grants. I guess it’s too much trouble to get a group of people together and work through the thinking that goes behind it.

A few weeks ago we assembled a group of teachers together to work on this high school initiative. We worked for a total of 8 hours with them, defining the goals and vision of the project. Three of us then worked on writing the narrative and organizing all the pieces. There was really a lot of thinking that went into this, and it shows. Collaboration! That’s what it’s all about. Because we all worked together, we have a great proposal. Hopefully in July we’ll hear about an award of around $350,000. In a future post I’ll talk more about the grant itself. But for now, I think collaboration is the greatest!
