21apples.org

I recently learned about a weblog cleverly titled 21apples - learning in the 21st century put together by one of my Teachers College student colleagues, Arvind Grover. I like what he has to say. In fact, I learned about a few things:

  1. FreeMind - an open source concept mapping tool
  2. A great video guide that could be useful in working with students on video projects.
  3. 10 x 10 - “Every hour, 10x10 collects the 100 words and pictures that matter most on a global scale, and presents them as a single image, taken to encapsulate that moment in time.” Certainly an interesting concept.
  4. Our Media - “We provide free storage and free bandwidth for your videos, audio files, photos, text or software. Forever. No catches.” Good deal…
  5. Elgg - This is an open source “learning landscape.” You can take a tour. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to check this one out, but it looks like it’s worth a close look. I wonder how many districts block this particular tool?

Speaking of use of social networking sites, Arvind has some thought on the issue.

Another site I am looking forward to tracking and participating in is Praxis Makes Perfect: Computing and Education @ TC. This is a weblog created by June Ahn and Aaron Mandel for fellow TC students to share knowledge and learn from each other beyond the classroom. I am looking forward to the conversation and seeing how this develop!
