Update: Assessment Seminar #6

I missed class last week because of the weather. I did contact another person in the class and here is what I have to do for March 10th. (We will not be having class this week because the instructor is presenting at a conference.)
*Be able to search through ERIC and EDUCAT.
*Check into ClassWeb for some sort of online assignment substituting for the March 10 class.
*Post in ClassWeb 3-5 research questions that have typically been asked in the literature about technology and education. What are the right questions to ask?
*Assigned readings as per the syllabus.
*Complete first article review assignment.
I am not sure what the specifics are on the article review. I’ve contacted the instructor but have not heard anything yet.
Colleagues

As I was driving in the car this morning, I was thinking about the concert last Saturday, and feeling pretty good about how it went. Even though Chamber Harmony did three pieces, they did them well. It struck me how much less pressure there is to do a few pieces rather than a full program! What a difference!
In attendance at the performance were two colleagues, music teachers in the district. Obviously came out to support Jon and hear him, and that’s OK. What was interesting, but not unexpected, was the lack of comment on the group. Now granted, the group is nothing stellar, but some sort of positive comment would have been warrented. But I guess they thought that would be too insincere. Who knows…
I don’t understand the scarcity mentality. Shouldn’t we all be supporting each other as professionals? Because we sang show tunes, does that make us less of a performing group? Because I am not a ‘music teacher’ anymore, does that make the performance any less acceptable. Do we lose sight of why we are here - for kids? I’ve never been one who needs accolades or positive comments, but it is sad when colleagues can’t even address the postive or critical aspects of a performance. I hate egos…

What did I get myself into?

I mentioned a while back that I was going to see all 28 local high school productions that are being judged for the Freddy Awards at the State Theatre in Easton come May. So far I’ve seen 2 productions, with 4 more in the coming week. I am not going to get into the specifics, but the show that I saw this afternoon….oy!
The first show that I saw last weekend was quite enjoyable. Today’s was probably the worst high school show I’ve seen…ever. Now I can understand things like: these are just kids, or it’s not Broadway. But I don’t know how often I can sit through something this painful. Plus, I feel that it is just a waste of my time.
I am supposed to suggest 2 singers from each cast to be involved in the opening number. Two? Couldn’t even find one. So I am suggesting the director choose 2 and we’ll live with whoever he sends.
Anyhow, hopefully this coming weekend will be more enjoyable!
Looks like another great week for weather. As of now, they are predicting 6-10” starting tomorrow AM and lasting into Tuesday. Would love another day off!
