Of Mice and Men WebQuest Wednesday, March 01, 2006

I have been working on creating a WebQuest for my English 9 pull-out classes.  I will be starting the project shortly.  The class will be reporting to the library next week to gather information.  The following week the class will be in the multimedia room creating PowerPoint presentations.  I am looking forward to having the students start this project.  I think it will be a very challenging assignment that will raise the bar for the special education students. cool smile

Prism Pop Activity Wednesday, March 01, 2006

Well, we did the Prism Pop activity. Students used calculus to come up with the dimensions that will hold the same amount of volume. We used the computer lab for the extension part of the activity. The students researched cost for pallets, weight restrictions, and shipping. I got some interesting projects. Some students had pallets stacked 8 ft high worth of soda. I think that the extension part was difficult because the students don’t have experience with warehouses, etc. Overall, I will use the activity next year but take off the shipping aspect of it.

Rubrics and Evaluation Questions Tuesday, February 28, 2006

Our final session will allow you time to reflect individually and as a group on some of the work you’ve done in the classroom. The information you provide will be useful in evaluating the program as well as determining how it will proceed in the future. Please be as detailed in candid in your remarks and assessments as possible.

You will receive a hard copy of the rubrics - same as you completed in the fall. You can work on these today, or wait until up to the end of March. Let me know if you’d like more time.

There is also a set of Evaluation Questions to complete. Again, please be as detailed as possible. Right click on this link (EVALUATION QUESTIONS) and save the document to your server space. You can type right in the document and email it to me when you are complete. Again, March 31 would be great.

Student Surveys will also be given once again. This can be done anytime prior to March 31. Since the surveys are only live for seven days, please let me know several days before you plan on administering the survey and I will set it up for you.

Computer Lab Activity - Not a Disaster, Still Needs Work! Wednesday, February 08, 2006

I did a computer lab activity with my Algebra II Honors students today and it didn’t go quite as planned.  The online graphing calculator site crashed because too many of us were trying to use it at once.  Thank goodness Randy was there to save the day and found another one.  I also didn’t think totally through my instructions for having the students type their answers in Microsoft Word.  I take for granted knowing how to type complicated math equations in and should have thought about that more clearly.  Some of my other directions could have also been a little more explicit.  I will make changes for another teacher who said that she may be interested and hopefully it will go easier for her.  Live and learn!!  I did see the proverbial “light bulbs” going on over some students and that was encouraging because I think that some of them were really starting to get it.  Tomorrow we will be finishing up the activity.

Upcoming Activities Wednesday, February 01, 2006

In World History we will be playing the interactive Roman Empire game as a class. The question will be asked “what makes a more successful leader, one who is feared by the people, or one who is liked by the people”? In Fundamentals of Math we will be making bi-weekly trips to the library and using various math web sites to practice lessons learned. d
